       Tribal Belly Dance Duo

Miasma is a Tribal Belly Dance duo based in Northern Tasmania.  Our performances have often been described as 'mesmerising'! Shows can have an earthy, gypsy feel with upbeat and folky flair, or a more intense, dramatic style.  Shows, costumes and music can be tailored to suit the occasion, from a more ‘traditional’ feel, to   modern, edgy gothic/club style, using props such as swords and fire to create dramatic, exciting performances.  Miasma uses a variety of music styles to support their performances, including middle eastern sounding drum based music and modern interpretations of this style, to a wider variety of modern music styles.  Miasma also dance with live drummers.  Shows are performed in 10-15 minute segments, the number of segments can be negotiated to suit the event.

Tribal Style belly dance is a structured improvisational form of dance that draws from cultures around the world, including Middle Eastern, Egyptian, Indian, Spanish Flamenco, and African dance.   Tribal style is usually performed with two or more dancers, as it is a style of dance in which dancers interact with one another.  This style of belly dance originated in the US and has spread around the world in recent years, becoming more and more popular. The performances have a focused, fresh, energetic feel, largely due to the improvisational component and the interaction between dancers.

Angela and Katrina have both been studying and performing belly dance for more than ten years, and specialising in Tribal Style belly dance for over 4 years.  They have performed together as Miasma since late 2005.   They both also teach this style of belly dance and recently completed America Tribal Style Skills Certificate training in NSW with Carolena Nerricio (US), as well as regularly attending dance tuition with interstate teachers.
